Bonzi Sanitary Landfill - Closure and Landfill Gas System Design

Project Description:
EBA has provided a multiplicity of services for the Bonzi Sanitary Landfill. This project consisted of the preparation of Final Closure and Postclosure Maintenance Plans and construction documents, including Plans, Specifications, and CQA Plans for the 80-acre Class III privately-owned landfill. The final closure design included an engineered alternative for the cover system. EBA permitted the use of a 30mil PVC cap in lieu of one foot of clay due to clay availability and to enhance landfill gas collection caused by shallow refuse depths.
EBA also designed and permitted a landfill gas extraction system and flare complex. System components included horizontal gas collection wells, vertical gas extraction wells, above ground piping, blowers, flare station and condensate collection and storage system.
EBA Provided the Following Services:
- Evaluation and conceptual design for alternative systems for the control of off-site landfill gas migration.
- Performed field pilot testing using horizontal trenches to assess perimeter monitoring probes.
- Provided construction management for the landfill gas monitoring and control system.
- Designed a continuous monitoring system for on-site structures.
- Documented and coordinated the Authority to Construct permitting through the San Joaquin Valley Unified Air Pollution Control District.
EBA continues to provide engineering services for the Bonzi Sanitary Landfill with the development of a groundwater evaluation monitoring plan.
