Geotechnical Engineering
Seismic Risk Assessments
Deterministic or probabilistic seismicity assessments are performed to develop design level motions for landfill slope stability analysis or for new or existing structures.
Evaluation of Landfill Materials
EBA performs field investigations and laboratory testing of proposed borrow sources of clay materials for landfill liners and covers; field and laboratory permeability testing to assess whether proposed material will meet the 1x10-7 cm/sec permeability standard for Subtitle D liners or 1x10-6 cm/sec permeability standard for Title 14 covers; and interface shear strength tests on soil and geosynthetic components of landfill liners and covers.
Landfill Construction Quality Assurance (CQA)
EBA develops CQA Plans for landfill liners and covers based on evaluation of landfill materials; provides supervision of field CQA activities; and preparation and submittal of CQA certification reports.
Slope Stability Analysis
EBA performs static and dynamic analysis of proposed landfill liner and cover systems using PCSTABL or CLARA computer programs, utilizing interface shear strength data and seismic risk assessment results, and including displacement analysis of seismic deformation. Similar slope stability analyses can be performed for excavations and site grading at landfills and any other type of development.
Geologic Hazard Assessments
Subtitle D requires a demonstration that landfills located in "unstable areas" are designed to safeguard the integrity of the structural components. EBA provides investigations and recommends mitigation measures for geologic hazards which define an "unstable area", such as fault rupture, seismic ground shaking, liquefaction, earthquake induced landsliding, subsidence, lurching, lateral spreading, settlement, or erosion.
Foundation Engineering
EBA has the capability to perform geotechnical investigations to develop design parameters for structural foundations, including spread footings, drilled piers, or driven piles. EBA also provides field monitoring of foundation construction, as well as investigations of foundation failures.
Landslide Investigation and Repair
EBA performs investigations of existing or suspected landslides and develops recommendations as well as plans and specifications for repair or stabilization.
